Last week during a 24 hour Pokémon Sword & Shield live stream NIntendo revealed a Galarian variant of Ponyta. With a pastel coloured mane and a horn you could mistake Galarian Ponyta for a My Little Pony character.
Today Nintendo shared some more details on Galarian Ponyta:
- Galarian Ponyta is exclusive to Pokémon Shield
- It can be found in Glimwood Tangle forest
- The pastel coloured mane is caused by the “overflowing life energy” in Glimwood Tangle
- It has two exclusive abilities – “Pastel Veil” and “Run Away”
- Its mane will sparkle when there is a lot of energy in the atmosphere
Galarian Ponyta is exclusive to Pokémon Shield
So if, like me, you fell in love with Sirfetch’d, the hybrid duck and medieval knight Pokémon with a giant leek for a sword and a leaf for a shield, you won’t be able to have both in your squad without trading. Time to make some friends with either duck or pony lovers depending on your personal proclivities!
It can be found in Glimwood Tangle forest
This information was in a very excellent Polygon article you can read here. On the official page for Galarian Ponyta it only says:
“Galarian Ponyta have been found in a certain forest of the Galar region since ancient times. It is said that they were exposed to the overflowing life energy of the forest over many generations, and this is why their appearance became unique in this region.”
The pastel coloured mane is caused by the “overflowing life energy” in Glimwood Tangle
This is laid out in the previous point, but I want to call special attention to how adorable it looks. It’s just so cute. Like a Ponyta but instead with candy floss instead of flames. I don’t know about you but I prefer candy floss to open flames personally.
It has two exclusive abilities – “Pastel Veil” and “Run Away”
Pastel Veil is basically an anti-poison ability. It will prevent the Galarian Ponyta and allied Pokémon from becoming poisoned and can cure its ally when it enters the fray.
Run away isn’t explored in the article, so maybe bigger Pokémon fans than I can leave a comment below explaining how this will work in Sword & Shield.
Its mane will sparkle when there is a lot of energy in the atmosphere
Yeah this thing is just a straight up dreamboat. I was already fairly set on Pokémon Shield, but if anything this has confirmed my previous bias. Luckily I’m part of a pretty strong gaming community spearheaded by my co-hosts on the Gaming Fyx podcast, so I probably won’t have to worry about getting Sirfetch’d. Leave a comment below saying which version you’re getting!
